Community spirit shines through - July 23rd
Belper's 1st Alton Manor Scout Group are a step closer to getting a brand new HQ thanks to housebuilder Peveril Homes, who has officially handed over a plot of land on Gregory's Way to the towns' 120-strong group.
The Scout Group, now the largest in Belper and District, are currently using temporary accommodation, however following Peveril Homes' gesture of goodwill that has been negotiated alongside Amber Valley Borough Council, are now hoping to raise £300,000 to build a new HQ on the land at Alton Manor Estate.
James Smith, Land Manager at Peveril Homes recently attended a ceremony at St Peter's Church in Belper to officially 'handover' the land. Ex-Blue Peter presenter and Chief Scout, Peter Duncan was also in attendance.
Comments James Smith: 'Peveril Homes is a family owned company and one that doesn't just build houses, we build new communities and invest in existing communities. So we were happy to help the Scout out whilst also giving something back to the local community.
'There is a fantastic community spirit in Belper and we feel buyers at our Peak View development will certainly benefit from this."
Peveril Homes is currently offering a choice of new homes in Belper at its Peak View development. Here buyers can now take advantage of a new scheme entitled 'Homebuy', an initiative which takes its lead from the Government backed scheme to help bridge the gap between house prices and salaries. Homebuy is aimed at widening home ownership and increasing housing affordability.
